The Knights of Columbus Florentine Council is heavily involved with our church and community. Listed below are activities and functions that we participate in year round.
Church ActivitiesSponsor Founders Day Mass/Memorial for deceased members (Feb. 6th) Provide adult altar servers for weekday funeral Masses at OLMC Participate in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Holy Thursday and monthly throughout the year Conduct 9/11 Remembrance/ Blue Mass for first responders Develop a Parish Roundtable in each of our Parishes that desire one Sponsor members attend Pro-life rally in Washington, DC (January) Promote increased participation in liturgical ministries in all of our parishes
Community ActivitiesPromote increased member attendance at Catholic Policy Day in Albany, NY (March) Continue to provide all workers for the Italian Specialties Booth at OLMC’s St. Anthony Street Festival Provide cash awards at Our Lady of Lourdes, Holy Trinity, and St. Peter’s School Graduations for citizenship that demonstrates catholic social principles Provide community meals for the poor and homeless by supporting the Hudson Valley Food Bank and other local food pantries Sponsor individual college scholarships as resources permit Continue to sponsor events to collect food and personal items for troops serving abroad and in VA hospitals Participate in Poughkeepsie’s Pulaski Day Parade
Council ActivitiesMembers attend NYS K of C Prayer Rally at State CapitolParticipate in State C&B Program with all council profits donated to local charitiesRaise funds for Special Olympics and other worthy local causes Support all charity programs of the Hudson Valley Chapter including the Lourdes (France) program Conduct a Blood Drive Provide more opportunities for socialization at meetings Family ActivitiesProvide financial assistance to the RCIA program at OLM, helping to prepare converts for entry into the Faith Provide financial and other support to the Faith Formation Program at OLM which involves parents in the sacramental preparation of their children Assist in the catechetical program at OLM by Teaching and Role Playing in various settings Hold a family Communion breakfast Hold a Christmas Caroling event to include other Parishes Conduct a Family of the Year selection and award event Conduct a “Keep Christ in Christmas” program
Youth ActivitiesSupport Columbian Squires Circle #370 Participate in National Free Throw Competition Hold an Alcohol and substance abuse essay contest for students in grammar and high schools Sponsor a little league baseball or T-ball team
